Patrick Minford

Patrick Minford

Professor of Applied Economics

Patrick Minford is a macroeconomist who holds the chair of Applied Economics at Cardiff University, where he directs the Julian Hodge Institute of Applied Macroeconomics. Before academic life, he was an economic adviser to Her Majesty's Treasury's External Division and editor of the National Institute Review. From 1976 to 1997, he was the Edward Gonner Professor of Applied Economics at Liverpool University, where he founded and directed the Liverpool Research Group in Macroeconomics, which built the influential Liverpool Model of the UK. He was a member of the Monopolies and Mergers Commission from 1990 to 1996 and one of HM Treasury's Panel of Forecasters, the "6 Wise Men", from January 1993 to December 1996. He was made a CBE for services to economics in 1996. His economic interests include monetary, trade, labour market and macroeconomics and modelling.

Max Gillman

Max Gillman is the Friedrich A. Hayek Professor of Economic History at the University of Missouri–St. Louis and a Research Professor at Corvinus University of Budapest. A University of Chicago PhD, he previously held senior positions at Cardiff Business School and Central European University, as well as research roles at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and CERGE-EI in Prague. A leading voice in monetary theory, his 2023 book, The Spectre of Price Inflation, has been praised by experts at the Bank of Finland and the Institute of International Monetary Research as a definitive indictment of modern central banking. He is also the author of Advanced Modern Macroeconomics: Analysis and Application and Inflation Theory in Economics: Welfare, Velocity, Growth and Business Cycles. His research focuses on business cycles, economic growth, and how money and banking influence cycles and long-term growth.

David Meenagh

David Meenagh

David Meenagh is currently a professor in economics at Cardiff Business School. He holds an MSc from Liverpool University and a PhD from Cardiff University. His interests are in macroeconomic modelling, applied research, monetary policy and international finance. He has published extensively in top economic journals, including the Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions and Money and Open Economies Review.

Mai is currently a professor at Cardiff Business School. Before joining Cardiff Economics Department in August 2014, she held lectureship positions in Economics at the University of Sheffield and Swansea University. Her interests are in macroeconomic modelling, monetary policy and international finance.
Ruthira Naraidoo

Ruthira Naraidoo

Ruthira Naraidoo is currently a professor at the Department of Economics, University of Pretoria. He completed his PhD in 2004 at Cardiff University and previously held lecturer positions in economics at Keele University and the University of Nottingham Ningbo. He secured his BSc Honours degree from the University of Mauritius and an MSc degree from Cardiff University. His research interests are in applied macroeconomic theory and policy, with a focus on macro models of business cycles at the nexus of financial markets, commodity markets, monetary and fiscal policy. He also works on time series econometrics and has published extensively in both international and domestic journals.
